Job Description for Intern


Position: Intern
Location: Lima, Peru
Duration: Six months (renewable)
Supervisors: Regional Associates for America
Incentive: Monthly stipend of US$ 200.00


Overall Purpose of the Internship

The ECPAT International internship programme is designed to provide an opportunity to the eligible candidates to contribute to and learn about child protection issues, particularly children’s rights to live free of commercial sexual exploitation. Interns are eligible to participate in the ECPAT International Secretariat activities. They are expected to carry out the duties assigned to them under the responsibility of the designated supervisor(s).


Objectives

To assist the Americas Regional Programme of the ECPAT International Secretariat with the monitoring of the implementation of the Stockholm Agenda for Action. This includes but does not limit to, collection and analysis of information on country situations with regard to the commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC).


Primary Tasks

- Conduct desktop research to develop country specific situational reports in relation to CSEC;
- Review and analyze information on CSEC collected by ECPAT International from a variety of sources and using it to enhance ECPAT country/regional information;
- Provide support for updating information related to the Americas in the ECPAT International CSEC Database;
- Assist the Associate for the America Region in the preparation of concept notes and papers on CSEC related issues;
- Attend local meetings with Regional Associate for America in order to provide support in the recording of minutes and in the preparation of final reports;
- Assist the Associate for the America Region with communications work to strengthen the network in the region (prepare articles for ECPAT’s monthly bulletin, prepare updates for the website, etc.);
- Assist in the organization of national and regional meetings, carried out by ECPAT International. Provide logistics support for these meetings;
- Translate relevant information and documentation for the work of ECPAT International. (Spanish/English and English/Spanish. Portuguese is desirable).
- Assist in the realization of office’s administrative tasks


Qualifications

Essential
- University background in Law, Political Science, Communication or any other related Social Science
- Strong research and writing skills
- Ability to synthesize large amounts of information into concise formats
- Good knowledge of computer applications (Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
- Exposure to children’s rights or other social issues
- Fluency in Spanish and English
Desirable
- University background in Social Work
- Ability to communicate effectively in Portuguese
- Experience using design programs (i.e. Adobe illustrator, Adobe Indesign, Dreamweaver, Flash)
- Ease in working within a multi-cultural team
- Experience in working with human rights and/or social development issues specifically as these relate to the rights of children
- Experience in working with children
- Experience organizing campaigns or events
- Already living in Lima. If the applicant resides out of Peru, he/she needs to be responsible for travel costs, visa, etc.
